While many South African’s struggle with their water supply from municipalities, some are taking matters into their own hands. We recently read a story about 2 local hospitals in Johannesburg that did just that. Through the Gift Of The Givers organisation, they now have access to borehole water. And, this means that they can perform life-saving surgeries again.
The Helen Joseph Hospital and the Rahima Moosa Hospital both experienced water shortages due to the Hurst Hill Reservoir running low. Patients on dialysis and those needing surgery were most affected. They only had enough resource for emergency surgeries.
The Gift Of The Givers organisation dug multiple boreholes to assist. Now, both of these hospitals have been given water security and their water supply concerns are finally over.
Almost 18 000 litres of water per hour is being pumped directly from the borehole to each hospital. That is almost 130 000 litres of uninterrupted water per day.
Boreholes are a great asset to help give people water security and increase your water supply. For more information about borehole drilling in South Africa and the benefits that they offer, read our latest news posts. Our aim is to keep you informed as best as possible.
